3 Children Killed in Texas Hit and Run Crash

HitRun3

When involved in a car accident, the involved parties are required to stop afterward. This is so they can exchange information as well as check on any injured victims so they can get medical care.

Unfortunately, this does not always happen. Many people flee the accident scene for one reason or another. Hit and run crashes are on the rise and many seriously injure or kill innocent victims, which makes it a serious issue.

Sadly, a recent hit and run accident in El Paso left three children dead and two others injured. The fatal crash occurred on the evening of September 20 at Dyer Street and Titanic Avenue. Two vehicles collided at the intersection, killing three children, ages 1, 5 and 6. They were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.

A family was in a Ford Expedition SUV when it was hit by a speeding Lincoln LS. The Lincoln failed to yield at the intersection. Inside the SUV were also a 13-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries. The adults—a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman—suffered minor injuries.

Several people inside the Lincoln fled the accident scene on foot. One person was arrested in connection with the crash, but no further details were released.

Reasons for Hit and Run Crashes

Why do people flee the accident scene? Why don’t they stop and help the others? There are many reasons why, but the primary reason is that a driver is doing something illegal, so they do not want to get caught by police.

For example, if a person has an expired license or no license at all, they likely won’t pull over because they shouldn’t even be driving in the first place. In addition, a person may not pull over if they are doing something illegal, such as driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They may also have outstanding tickets or arrest warrants, so they want to be as far away from police as possible.

Another issue is that some drivers are uninsured. Even though Texas requires drivers to carry a minimum amount of insurance, not all do. The main reason is that insurance can be very expensive, so some people take a chance and drive without it.

Another thing to consider is that some drivers are simply panicked when they get into a crash. In a stressful situation, some people flee the crisis, which means that a driver with an otherwise perfect driving record may make a bad decision. Many panicked drivers do return later.
