Man Killed After Vehicle Hits Fire Hydrant

CarAccident5

When people say that speed kills, they’re not lying. Going too fast on the roadways can lead to disastrous results. A Texas man found this out the hard way when he was killed in a car accident caused by speed.

The fatal crash occurred on the evening of January 6 in the 4700 block of Kelley Street. There were multiple people inside a speeding vehicle. The vehicle hit a fire hydrant and landed in nearby trees. Two female passengers were hospitalized with unknown injuries. One man died at the accident scene. It is unknown if he was a driver or passenger.

Dangers of Speeding

Speeding is dangerous, and what you may not know is that speeding does not always mean exceeding the speed limit. For example, if there is ice or snow on the road, going the speed limit may actually be speeding. It is important that drivers adjust their speed in bad weather and other hazardous conditions, such as construction zones and heavy traffic, to avoid accidents.

Racing is also dangerous and illegal. It endangers other vehicles on the roadway. If you have a need for speed, take your vehicle to a local racetrack and race it there so you won’t injure others.

Going above the speed limit is illegal and can result in costly speeding tickets. Not only will you have to pay hefty fines, but your insurance rates may also increase. If you get multiple speeding tickets in a short period of time, you may get points on your driver’s license and this can lead to your license getting suspended. So slow down and stay at or below the speed limit.

Speed is especially dangerous for SUVs and trucks, which have a high center of gravity. This can increase the risk of rollover. If a vehicle is speeding and gets into an accident, the injuries are more likely to be serious and even fatal.

Even if you don’t drive a truck or SUV, you face a greater risk of losing control of your vehicle when you’re speeding. Plus, the stopping distance increases, so if you see a vehicle or hazard in front of you, you’ll need more time to slow down and avoid an accident.

Also keep in mind that speeding increases wear and tear on your vehicle, especially your tires. Tires can be expensive, so speeding can be a costly habit. Plus, it reduces fuel consumption, so factor in more gas as well.

Speed limits are in place for a reason: they save lives. If everyone decided on how fast they would go, rather than rely on traffic signs and laws, there would be a lot more accidents.
