Postal Worker Killed in Hit and Run Accident

HitRun

When a person steals a vehicle, they often draw attention to themselves by engaging in high-speed chases with police or causing hit and run accidents. This recently happened in Texas, when a person stole a vehicle and collided with a USPS truck, killing the driver.

The fatal accident happened on the afternoon of September 30 at Julia Street and Bauman Road in Houston. The postal worker from Oak Forest was turning left on Julia Street when a vehicle was trying to go around him. The driver ended up clipping the postal truck. This caused the truck to roll into a ditch. The man was ejected from the truck, which fell on top of him.

Several witnesses came to the man’s aid. They lifted the truck off him and tried to comfort him as much as possible. Unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital. Shattered glass could be seen on the road in the area.

The driver who hit the postal truck fled the accident scene. Witnesses did try to stop him. He is described as a Hispanic man driving a 2011 white Ford Expedition.

Police do have a license plate number. They went to the registered owner’s house and they claimed the vehicle was stolen, so police are still investigating the accident and hoping to find the hit and run driver.

The USPS released a statement stating that they are deeply saddened by the postal worker’s death. Their thoughts are with the man’s family, friends, and colleagues at this time.

Dealing With a Hit and Run Accident

If you notice a driver fleeing an accident scene without stopping, that is a crime. It is called a hit and run accident and could come with fines, jail time, and other penalties. While it may be dangerous to try to stop the vehicle, you can help by doing the following:

  • Gather as much information as possible about the vehicle and location. What type of vehicle was it? What color was the vehicle? Could you see the driver? Did you happen to see the license plate? Also, where did the accident take place and in which direction was the driver heading?
  • Call 911. This will allow you to report the accident as well as get medical help for any victims.
  • Take photos and videos of the accident scene. This will help police with their investigation as well as help them with a police report.
