Man Causes Head-On Crash In Houston Drive-Thru

CarFrontDamage

Getting into a car crash can ruin your whole day, especially after you’ve waited patiently for a meal in the drive-thru of your favorite fast food restaurant. This may seem like an oddly specific situation but this was what recently happened in Houston.

The incident happened on the evening of July 31. A man was waiting for his food at a Whataburger location in Houston when he was suddenly hit head-on in the drive-thru by an ambulance. The driver who was hit initially thought that someone was hurt, which must have been the reason for the ambulance to go the wrong way in a drive-thru at high speeds.

Nope, that wasn’t it. The reason was because the ambulance was stolen from West Houston Medical Center. A 26-year-old man had stolen the Houston Fire Department ambulance, which was parked outside the hospital.

The Whataburger was just a mile from the hospital, on Westheimer Road. The man who stole the ambulance hit three vehicles in the fast food restaurant’s parking lot before going through the drive-thru and hitting another vehicle head-on. That vehicle then hit the vehicle behind it.

After the crash, the man who stole it went inside the Whataburger and ran all over the kitchen. Police were called and they took the man into custody. The man faces multiple criminal charges, including one count of felony theft and one misdemeanor count of failing to stop and provide police with information. Nobody was injured in the accidents.

Accidents Involving Stolen Vehicles

Getting into an accident with a stolen vehicle can be frustrating. The first step, like any other crash, is to determine liability. Regardless of what you might think, the person who stole the vehicle is not automatically at fault for the crash, even though they will likely be facing criminal charges for grand theft auto

The insurance company will determine liability by reviewing police reports, witness statements, and other evidence. When a vehicle is stolen, and you were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, you could be denied compensation. That’s because you may be seen as an accomplice to the crime and the insurance company will try to deny your claim.

Therefore, your best bet in a crash case that involves a stolen vehicle is to seek legal help. Your lawyer will inform you on how to proceed.

 Contact a Personal Injury Lawyer

Those who steal cars (including ambulances) often engage in reckless driving to get away from police. This can cause innocent drivers to become involved in crashes and possibly get injured.
