2 Killed In Accident Caused By Street Racing

Speeding

Many people enjoy driving at high speeds. Some even participate in races against other vehicles. This can be fun and exhilarating. However, the practice of street racing is illegal and dangerous. It can even lead to fatality.

Sadly, two people were recently killed while street racing in Houston. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of June 11 at the intersection of Homestead Road and Leedale Street. A pickup truck was racing another vehicle at high speeds before losing control. The truck went off the road and ended up in a wooded area. It then hit a tree before flipping over. The truck caught fire.

The man and woman inside the pickup truck were both killed in the crash. Neither were wearing a seatbelt. The truck was so damaged that it was unknown who was driving. There was no information about the other vehicle involved, as it fled the scene after the crash. Police are still trying to locate it. It is unknown if the racers knew each other.

What is Street Racing?

Street racing is an illegal activity that involves auto racing on public roads. It is often done in areas that are not busy, such as in the country or in the outskirts of the city. Racers often choose straight roads with no curves. Nevertheless, street racing is a dangerous activity, with many drivers, passengers, and even bystanders killed every year.

Many people enjoy participating in and watching street racing for various reasons. Drivers like to show off the performance of their vehicles. Gambling is often involved in street racing events.  Bystanders like to place wagers on who will win, like betting on horse races. Plus, street racing is often simple, with very few rules and politics involved. In some places, there are even car racing communities and social scenes.

Street racing often involves teens and young adults, ages 16 to 25 years old. The main demographic is male minorities. The races tend to occur late at night or early in the morning.

Street racing is not sanctioned, so participants may choose roads where there are many houses. In the event of a crash, there can be significant property damage to other people’s yards, fences, homes, and vehicles. Another downside is that the fastest vehicles are the most prized ones and may be stolen by others. In some cases, street racing represents gang activity.
