2 Killed, 2 Injured In Houston Crash

CarCrash10

Speeding may seem fun, but it’s often a recipe for disaster. Case in point: A recent crash in Houston that killed two people and injured two others.

The crash happened on the morning of November 13. A Jeep and Maserati, both going at high speeds, collided with each other. Two people were killed and two others were injured.

The fatal accident occurred near West Dallas and La Rue streets. Both vehicles were speeding on West Dallas Street, but it is unknown if the two cars were racing each other.

The Jeep hit the left side of the Maserati. The Maserati lost control, veering off the road. It hit a pole before slamming into the patio and fence of the old Nino’s Restaurant, near Buffalo Bayou Park.

The Jeep kept rolling until hitting a utility pole at Eberhard Street. It is unknown how many people were inside the Jeep, but they all fled the accident scene.

There were four people inside the Maserati. All were men in their 20s and 30s. Two died at the accident scene. The other two, a driver and passenger, were hospitalized in critical condition. All are men, believed to be in their 20s to 30s.

One of the passengers in the Maserati was identified as a 26-year-old man from Deer Park. He was killed in the crash. His mother was out of state when she was informed of the crash and rushed home. His family has a GoFundMe in place to pay for funeral expenses.

The crash has been classified as a hit and run. There was one witness but no surveillance video, so police are still trying to identify the suspects. The accident is still under investigation.

Speeding and Car Accidents

Speeding is a major factor in car accidents as well as resulting injuries and fatalities. Excessive speed reduces the amount of time the driver has to react and avoid a crash, as it increases vehicle stopping distance.

Speeding is a common issue, accounting for nearly 30% of all traffic fatalities. A crash is considered speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense at the time of the accident or if racing, driving too fast for conditions, or exceeding the posted speed limit was considered to be a contributing factor in the crash. Spending is especially a factor when the roads have snow, slush, standing water, mud, dirt, gravel, frost, or ice.

Racing and speeding are troublesome driving behaviors that often lead to serious crashes. That’s because it’s easier for the vehicles to lose control at high speeds.
