1 Killed In Head-On Crash In Houston

Collision

Many people drink and drive. It’s common in Texas. In fact, every 20 minutes, a person is injured or killed in a drunk driving crash in the state.

This was recently the reality in Houston. A driver believed to be intoxicated or fatigued was killed after colliding with another vehicle head-on. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of March 10 at the intersection of Tidwell Road and Valley Forest Drive.

The man driving a Chevy Malibu was traveling east on Tidwell Road. He was on a bridge in the 117000 block of Tidwell Road when he veered into the lane next to him. He hit a woman driving a Chevy Camaro.

The 32-year-old man died at the accident scene. The woman tried to avoid the crash, but couldn’t due to a concrete barrier in the way. She suffered serious injuries.

Police did not see any open containers inside the man’s vehicle. However, they find the man’s cell phone. They are looking into what caused the crash, but believe the man to be intoxicated or fatigued. Tidwell Road was shut down between Ticonderoga and John Ralston roads.

Causes of Fatal Car Accidents

Car accidents often result in fatalities. Some common causes include:

  • Drunk driving. Drunk driving impairs judgment or coordination. A person who drives while intoxicated is more likely to cause an accident that can kill themselves or others.
  • People should not be driving if they are too tired to do so. An overly tired driver is more likely to make mistakes. They may fall asleep and veer into an adjacent lane or even go off the road, killing themselves or others.
  • Distracted driving. When you are driving, you need to be focused on the road and what is in front of you. However, many drivers multitask, causing fatal crashes. Texting while driving is one of the most serious forms of distracted driving, as it involves taking your eyes off the road, hands off the steering wheel, and your mind off the task of driving. Other forms of distracted driving include eating, drinking, grooming, adjusting the radio, and talking to passengers.
  • Excessive speed is one of the top causes of fatal car accidents. The phrase “speed kills” is true. The higher the speed, the higher the impact of a crash, which means fatalities are more likely to occur.
  • Inexperience. Teens and other new drivers often cause fatal errors due to a lack of experience. They may have a license, but they do not have the skills to drive safely.
