Katy Motorcycle Accident Attorney

As a motorcyclist, you have a very clear understanding of the dangers out on the roads—merging semi-trucks, texting drivers, tailgaters, speeders, etc. Unfortunately, no matter how safe you ride, a negligent driver can take you out at any time. Just as horrifying, that driver may end up trying to blame you for causing the crash. If you were injured in a motorcycle crash, you need a lawyer who understands the risks and perils that motorcyclists navigate on a daily basis, and who understands the rights that motorcyclists have to be on the roads as well. Too many motorcyclists are wrongfully blamed for causing collisions in which they had no fault. Here at The West Law Office, our Katy motorcycle accident attorneys will stop at nothing to ensure that the negligent driver is held accountable for your damages, and that you leave this horrible experience with at least some sense that justice has been served.

The Five Most Common Causes of Motorcycle Collisions

In two-party collisions, in which the driver is at fault, the following scenarios are the most common ways that motorcycle crashes happen:

  • Improper Lane Change/Side Swipe—The driver changes lanes or merges onto a highway without properly checking over their shoulders or looking at their mirrors. They may or may not use turn signals, but their failure to yield right of way to the motorcyclist who is already occupying that space puts the driver at fault.
  • Left Turn Across Your Lane of Traffic—Drivers often say that motorcyclists “come out of nowhere” or are “impossible or difficult to see.” These are both false statements. Motorcyclists are easy to see if you look for them. But in the case of a left turn across the motorcyclist’s lane of traffic, or across in interaction, the driver usually fails to even look. This ends up resulting in a head-on collision or a T-bone collision, both of which can be fatal for the motorcyclist who was simply traveling straight in their lane of traffic.
  • Failure to Yield Right of Way From a Side Street—Drivers pulling out of parking lots, side streets, and driveways often cut off motorcyclists who have the right of way. This happens because of one of three reasons—the driver saw the motorcyclist and thought they could “beat” the motorcyclist, the driver failed to pay attention and did not see the motorcyclist, or the driver saw the motorcyclists and, and being in the larger vehicle intentionally pulled out to harass or mess with the motorcyclist.
  • Rear End—Following too closely, due to distraction, drunk driving, or road rage, is a common way in which motorcyclists get taken out by bad drivers.
  • Illegal Overtake—Overtaking a motorcyclist when it is unsafe to do so, such as on a double yellow line or within the motorcyclists’ own lane of traffic, is a common practice against road raged and impatient drivers.
